History "Gasthaus Zum Schützen"

The guesthouse "zum Schützen" lies close to the Osterbach not far from Hanisenhof. For centuries it was a busy mill, which was named Schlupfmühle after a former owner called Schlupf. Records show that back in 1615 Andres Schlupf and his wife Anna Langin had owned the mill.

Hans Steyert, "the Miller" was recorded as owner in around 1700, but the name Schlupfmühle was kept until the First World War. People who originated from the mill were recorded in the civil registry with the description "from the Schlupf". In around 1738 Johann Jautz, an ancestor of the Jautz family from Oberried, ran not only the mill and the restaurant "zum Ochsen" but also a butcher. This was also inherited by his later generations. As a result, an additional name "Schlupfmetzger" was born.

The building burnt down in around 1800. In 1878 Karl Weber from Burg was named "Schützenwirt" as innkeeper. During this time, as the Jautz family were owners of the butcher and Ochsen restaurant the Johann Thoma family and wife Catharina Begelsbacher and 9 children (1759 - 76) and Thomas Steiert (Steinhart) with his wife M. Anna nee. Ertel (1762 - 80) are recorded as having lived in the "Schlupf" mill. In 1936 the community boundaries were altered and a substantial amount of the land was transferred to Oberried, as it was closer than the village of Burg. The Steinhart family acquired ownership of the Schlupfmühle after Karl Weber. The last owner from this family was Frieda Steinhart (12.01.1920 - 02.11.1942), daughter of the late Adolf Steinhart (21.08.1883 - 11.08.1939) and wife Bernhardine nee. Schwer (14.10.1884 - 06.06.1940) from Gütenbach.

Frieda married Josef Heizmann (30.10.1912 - 09.10.1997) from Schweizerhof in Weilersbach. She then died as a result of a tragic accident. Josef and Frieda Heizmann had no children. Josef then married Maria Winterhalter (born. 25.04.1925) from Schwörerhof in Oberried. 11 children were brought into the world through this marriage.

The son Paul Heizmann took over the Guesthouse "Zum Schützen" together with his wife Eveline nee. Brack on 01.01.1979. The couple has three children.
